Shower, Tap & Bath Mixer Cartridge Replacement in West London

Plumbing Circle provides specialist cartridge diagnosis, identification and replacement for showers, taps, bath mixers and bath shower mixers throughout W11 and West London.

A dripping tap, stiff shower control, fluctuating water temperature or faulty diverter does not always mean that the complete fitting must be replaced. In many cases, the problem is caused by one worn or damaged internal cartridge.

With over 35 years of plumbing experience, Plumbing Circle can inspect the fitting, identify the cause and replace the correct component wherever a suitable spare is available.

We work with thermostatic cartridges, ceramic disc tap cartridges, diverter cartridges, flow-control cartridges, on/off cartridges and other internal shower and mixer-valve components—including cartridges from older or unidentified fittings.

Common Shower, Tap and Bath Mixer Cartridge Problems

Cartridge faults do not all look the same. The symptoms depend on whether the cartridge controls temperature, water flow or the outlet being used.

Shower or Tap Will Not Stop Dripping

A steady drip from a tap spout, shower head or bath filler can be caused by worn ceramic surfaces, seals or O-rings inside the cartridge. The correct cartridge replacement can often restore a proper shut-off without replacing the complete fitting.

Shower Temperature Keeps Changing

Water that repeatedly runs hot, cold or alternates between the two may point to a worn, scaled or sticking thermostatic cartridge. Plumbing Circle can assess the valve and check whether the temperature-control cartridge is responding correctly.

Water Is Too Hot or Will Not Get Hot Enough

If the shower no longer reaches a comfortable temperature, becomes excessively hot or stops at the wrong temperature, the thermostatic cartridge may not be mixing the hot and cold supplies correctly.

The calibration, supply conditions and cartridge itself may all need checking.

Stiff, Seized or Difficult Controls

A control that has become unusually stiff, difficult to turn or completely seized may be affected by limescale, damaged seals or internal wear.

Forcing it can damage the handle, spindle or valve body, so it is better to have the cause inspected.

Poor or Reduced Water Flow

Weak flow from a shower, tap or bath mixer can sometimes be caused by a restricted or damaged flow-control cartridge.

Filters, water supplies, check valves and other components may also be involved, so correct diagnosis should come before ordering replacement parts.

Water Will Not Turn On or Fully Turn Off

A failed on/off or flow-control cartridge can prevent the water from opening properly or shutting off completely.

Replacing the correct internal control may return the valve to normal operation.

Diverter Will Not Change Outlets

If a bath shower mixer will not switch between the bath spout and handset

—or a shower will not switch correctly between its overhead shower, handset or body jets —the diverter cartridge or diverter mechanism may be worn or sticking.

Water Comes From Two Outlets at Once

Flow from more than one outlet can indicate that the diverter is no longer sealing in the selected position.

The valve should be checked to determine whether the cartridge, seals or another internal component requires replacement.

Handle Turns but Nothing Happens

A spinning, loose or ineffective handle can be caused by a damaged cartridge spindle, worn splines, a failed adaptor or a problem with the handle itself.

Plumbing Circle can dismantle the control carefully and identify which component has failed.

Unusual Noise or Vibration

Whistling, chattering or vibration when a tap or shower is used may relate to restricted flow, unstable pressure or a worn internal component.

Inspection is important because the cartridge may not be the only possible cause.

Leaking Around the Handle or Control

Water appearing around a spindle, control knob or behind a handle can be caused by failed cartridge seals or O-rings.

Early attention can help prevent water from reaching concealed areas or damaging the surrounding finishes.

An Old or Unidentified Fitting Needs Repair

Brand names and part numbers are not always visible, particularly on older or concealed shower valves.

Even when the make is unknown, the removed cartridge, fitting design, dimensions and photographs can provide the information needed for successful identification.

Cartridges We Diagnose, Identify and Replace

Different cartridges perform different jobs, and the correct diagnosis depends on understanding what each control is designed to do.

Plumbing Circle works with the principal cartridge types used in modern and older taps, shower valves, concealed showers, bath mixers and bath shower mixers

Thermostatic and Temperature-Control Cartridges

A thermostatic cartridge mixes hot and cold water to maintain the selected temperature.

When it becomes worn, scaled or unresponsive, the shower may fluctuate between hot and cold, run at the wrong temperature or become difficult to adjust.

Plumbing Circle can check the operation of the valve, remove the thermostatic cartridge where appropriate, identify the correct replacement and install and test it.

The finished shower can also be checked and calibrated so that the temperature markings and safety stop operate as intended.

Ceramic Disc Tap Cartridges

Ceramic cartridges are widely used in basin taps, kitchen taps, bath taps and mixers. They may be quarter-turn or multi-turn, hot or cold, and can differ in height, thread, spline count and turning direction.

If a tap drips, will not shut off, becomes stiff or has a damaged spindle, Plumbing Circle can remove and measure the cartridge and match the correct version wherever available.

Accurate identification is especially important because cartridges that appear similar are not necessarily interchangeable.

Shower Flow-Control and On/Off Cartridges

Flow cartridges control how much water passes through a shower valve and may also act as the main on/off control.

Wear or limescale can lead to poor flow, stiffness, leaking or a valve that will not shut down completely.

The valve, handle connection and water supplies can be checked before the appropriate flow-control cartridge is sourced and fitted.

Diverter Cartridges

Diverter cartridges direct water between different outlets. They are found in bath shower mixers and multi-outlet shower systems, where they may switch between a bath spout, handset, overhead shower or another outlet.

A failed diverter may stick in one position, send water to the wrong outlet, allow two outlets to run together or leak when the control is moved.

Plumbing Circle can determine whether the diverter cartridge, seals or another part of the mechanism is responsible.

Traditional Tap Valves and Other Replaceable Components

Not every dripping tap contains a ceramic cartridge. Some older taps use traditional compression valves, washers, O-rings or replaceable headworks.

Plumbing Circle will identify the mechanism actually fitted and recommend the appropriate repair rather than assuming that every tap requires the same part.
